Champagne: the ideal destination for lovers of exploration

The Champagne region is best known for the sparkling wine that bears its name, as well as its beautiful hills. The cities of Epernay, Reims and Troyes are the main towns in the region. These towns are home to most of the Champagne houses, perfect for enjoying your trip to Champagne.

Although founded in the 5th century, the town of Epernay has really prospered since champagne production techniques were mastered in the 18th century. 100 kilometers of underground cellars are dug beneath the beautiful streets. Guided tours of the wine-making facilities are a must for anyone staying in the region. Epernay is a 30-minute train ride from Reims and an hour and 15 minutes from Paris.

Reims is 45 minutes by train from Paris, and is the gateway to the Champagne region. It is a fascinating and historic city. Visitors can explore the magnificent cathedral, which has held more than 30 coronations, the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Palais du Tau and the major brands and elegant champagne houses lining the main streets.

Troyes is the least discovered of the three towns, but in our opinion the most attractive. As the former capital of the region, the city prospered from the Middle Ages onwards, and medieval buildings and Gothic churches abound in its picturesque old town.

Visit the lively market, fascinating museums or stroll the narrow, cobbled streets that soak up the traditional French atmosphere. Troyes is also an excellent shopping destination, not only for discount champagne, but also for designer clothes and shoes in the nearby factory and discount stores.
